About Anti-Wrinkle Treatments
As we age and our skin starts to lose its elasticity, the lines and wrinkles of facial expression start to become more visible, by reducing the action of these muscles, the lines and wrinkles are reduced and even stopped from appearing altogether. Wrinkle reduction treatments, commonly referred to as a “Botox Treatment”, can be used to reduce this muscle action, thereby smoothing and softening the appearance of these lines and wrinkles, creating a fresher and more youthful appearance. Botox. is one brand of the medication Botulinum Toxin Type A, a purified protein that when injected into a muscle causes the muscle to relax. It works by blocking the signal from the nerve to the muscle, this temporarily reduces the muscle movement which in turn reduces the appearance of the wrinkles on the surface of the skin. They are used to by causing a temporary relaxation of the treated facial muscles. By altering the muscle movements, we can also create
effects such as lifted eyebrows or stop the corners of the mouth turning downwards. For some people even headaches can be reduced. This medication has been used medically for almost 50 years for many conditions, for example children with cerebral palsy have it regularly for muscle spasms. Botulinum Toxin Type a has been used cosmetically for over 35 years, being one of the UK’s most popular cosmetic treatment for the removal of wrinkles, with thousands of these treatments being carried out every year. It is a quick procedure with little or no downtime, with amazing results. By relaxing the facial muscles, wrinkles are made less visible; this results in a natural, rejuvenated look. The procedure is safe, pain free and is relatively quick to perform.
A full consultation is always carried out prior to your first treatment, including full medical history, to ensure suitability, and also to give you all the information you need and to allow you a chance to ask any questions, and to give you a cooling off period to give you time to think about the procedure before your first treatment. Once the treatment is carried out, it takes a few days for the results to start to show, with a gradual improvement before full effect is seen at 14-21 days. Any
review, if needed, will be carried out after 14 days. The results will last for 3-5 months, with a gradual return to normal movement. Some people worry that they will look “Frozen”, at Alchemy skin clinic we much prefer to encourage a more natural look, wanting you to just look refreshed and less tired, not frozen or obviously treated. Due to regulations in the UK, we are unable to show before and after photographs

-
Does it hurt? The sensations can be described as “pinchy” but most people find this quite tolerable
-
How long will the effects last?Depending on the treatment chosen for the hands, the effects will last up to 9 months. It is recommended that you also use hand cream and SPF daily to prolong the effects.
-
Do I need repeated treatments? As with most aesthetic treatments maintenance is required. But with good homecare as well as the clinic treatments the effects can last so that treatment may only need to be done once a year. Twice if the treatment is profhilo.
-
What will I look like immediately after treatment?Immediately after treatment there will be some raised bumps, this will disappear over the next few hours. It is possible to get some bruising.
-
Do I need to do anything special before or after the treatment? Before treatment it is recommended to limit alcohol for 24 hors and limit the use of anti-inflammatory painkillers, both of these can increase the risk of bruising. Some supplements such as vitamin e and fish oils can also have this effect, so stopping these a few days before treatment can also be useful. Do not stop any prescribed prescription medication without discussing this first. After treatment, keep the hands clean and avoid the use of hand creams for 4 hours.
